Keeping family biz finances in good shape
By: Amanda Stevens| Special to NMBW
Life as an executive in his father's business was the last thing Adam Harrington, HB Construction's CFO, imagined as a child.
"I never had this dream of working for the family company. I was definitely more into numbers and finance, but now I thank God every day that I ended up where I am, because it is absolutely the most rewarding thing I could ever do," he said.
Working at HB Construction, which Harrington's father started 20 years ago, allows him to remain close with family, including his brother, Jason Harrington, president and CEO. Adam Harrington has worked at the company for 10 years. Previously, he was a loan officer at Wells Fargo.
"I'm proud of the foundation of stability we have built for our family, Jason, my parents and I. It is great to have these roots planted in New Mexico, and I think we've done some amazing buildings across the state," he said.
What is your biggest weakness?
Right now, it's probably not completely listening when I should be listening.
What were you like as a child?
I was an absolute terror in every way... I would go, go, go, and then I'd get hurt and not listen to my parents. I'm so getting paid back right now with my boys -- they are the same. I see a lot of me in them.
Name something you used to think was cool, then thought it was lame and now think is cool again.
Fishing. I loved it as a kid, then thought it was lame when I got a little older, and now I love it -- especially when I can go with my 4-year-old.
