HB Construction honored with NAIOP Eagle Award of Excellence for $36 million Taos Judicial Complex

The Taos Judicial Complex, a complex built by HB Construction, was honored with a National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) Eagle Award of Excellence in the civic/public category, at the association’s annual luncheon, Friday, Dec. 9, at the Albuquerque Marriot Hotel.

"We went up against some impressive projects and I think this award truly validates the quality of our work and our team here at HB Construction," said President and CEO of HB Construction Jason W. Harrington.

Based on criteria such as owner satisfaction, safe performance and ability to overcome challenges, the complex beat-out the category’s three other finalists, the New Mexico Court of Appeals Pamela B. Minzner Law Center, the Artesia Public Safety Complex and the University of New Mexico’s Science and Math Learning Center.

The $36 million, 110,000-square-foot Taos County Judicial Complex is a made up of three, two-story buildings which house the county’s administration, courts and detention facilities.

Designed by award-winning design and engineering firm, AECOM, the complex reflects the unique regional traditions of the American Southwest through the careful use of the building massing and materials. The state-of-the-art complex features a fully integrated facility management system which gives facility maintenance staff full control and monitoring capabilities for the fire monitoring system and energy management system.

"Obviously, for Taos, this project is unique in scale and scope as it includes everything from offices to courtrooms to a highly-advanced, highly-secured detention facility," said Taos County Manager Jacob Caldwell "HB [Construction] has shown a comprehensive understanding of construction processes and programming and I’ve been very impressed with their efficiency and effectiveness in an unconventional environment like Taos."

The annual NAIOP Awards of Excellence Luncheon recognizes projects within New Mexico based on innovation, overall success of the project, owner satisfaction or financial return, safe performance and ability to overcome challenges. More than 500 professionals representing the architecture, engineering, construction and development industries attended the event.

In order to be eligible for the award each project must have been completed between Jan. 1, 2009 and Sept. 1, 2011 and must not have previously won a NAIOP award. NAIOP received more than 70 entries for this year’s Awards of Excellence.

NAIOP is an association for developers, owners and investors in office, industrial, and mixed-use real estate.
